Mangaluru, 15 July

The Special Investigative Team (SIT) constituted to probe the allegations of "multiple murders, rapes and burials" in the temple town of Dharmasthala submitted its final investigation report before the Belthangady court on Wednesday.

The report, comprising 3,082 pages, was submitted in 12 separate files before Additional Civil Judge Shashank Nagendra Bhat, a police official said. Along with the earlier 3,923-page report, the total investigation records now stand at 7,005 pages. Details were not immediately available.

The report was submitted by SIT Superintendent of Police CA Simon and others. It reportedly contained statements from around 255 witnesses, forensic science laboratory (FSL) reports and a 4tb hard disk.

On 20 November, 2025, the SIT had filed a 3,923-page report under Section 215 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against complainant CN Chinnaiah and activists who had earlier supported the complainant—Mahesh Shetty Timarodi, Girish Mattannavar, Jayanth T, Vittal Gowda and Sujatha Bhat.

Chinnaiah had earlier gone to a police station with a human skull claiming that he had buried hundreds of bodies, many of which bore the signs of sexual abuse, over decades when he worked as a sanitation worker in Dharmasthala, with the temple directly implicated.

The SIT then began excavating multiple locations identified by him along the banks of the Netravathi River. While some skeletal remains were found, the SIT arrested him for perjury. Chinnaiah then alleged that the activists coerced him to make false statements to defame Dharmashtala.
